in Our Man in Sweden

And here she is ;-) Well I was always taught that looks arent everything ;-)

This was me this morning working at a travel fair in Linköping

We arrived yesterday evening and explored the nightlife. It was really interesting for me to be in a small provincial Swedish city rather than a large Capital like Stockholm.

It reminded me in so many ways of my home town in that pubs and clubs were in one spot and literally next door to each other.  Linköping is a university town so there were plenty of cheap offers as the pubs fought for the business.

We started out at Harrys Bar which seemed quiet before heading to Texas Long Horn as my colleague and I both wanted a steak. I had asked at the hotel if we should book a table and they said no…Hmm of course we rock up starving and the place is booked all night.

Now something about the Swedes which I find more and more is they rarely upsell. Go to a restaurant in Amsterdam and even if they are full they will offer you something. It was only after a few minutes that the restaurant said we could eat in the pub bit behind the restaurant…fine by us! Though strange that he would have let us (and our expense account) walk away.

The service wasnt the best to be honest but as is always the case with Texas Long Horn the steak was excellent. We then hit a flurry of pubs including the Bishops Arms, which are a chain of mock British pubs but done well.

As you know I am not drinking at the moment so it was even more interesting for me to observe the people of Linköping!

We ended up at Harrys where there was some shockingly bad music upstairs (think Duran Duran) and downstairs hmm some techno dance shit. Almost enough to have me heading for the Jack Daniels!

We did end up speaking to a lot of people though. The accent was interesting for me, the Linköping folk speak much slower than Stockholmers – always good for me. Dare I say it they were also a lot friendlier and open. They were really interested in speaking to me as a Brit whereas in Stockholm they really couldnt care.

I would definitely recommend a night out in Linköping

We worked today so didnt see a great deal of the town but what I saw I liked. Linköping Cathedral is very impressive, its massive considering there are only 97,000 people living there.

One thing is for sure, I need to get out of Stockholm more.
