This morning is the last time I will wake up in Årsta. (Pronounced awwrshta)
This litle southern Stockholm community means a lot to me. I moved here with some trepidation. I mean its not even on an underground line. However I was soon to discover that Årsta is a thriving, friendly community, well as friendly as Swedes can get, and of course its in Bajensland.
There are many good things about living in Årsta, its quiet yet only a stones throw from Södermalm. Its a great place for running, cycling, walking. You can do a bit of fishing and again its just minutes from the city. The transport connections are good, you have a tvärbana, handy for Sickla, buses every 5 mins to Gullmarsplan and Liljeholmen and a pendeltåg. Oh and its very kid friendly. Several parks and the park opposite me even has a concrete snail which the kids run up and down.
There are enough stores here that cater for everyday needs and of course Palmyra Kebab, the best kebabs in the world. Srimoti curry house, a real diamond in the rough, just beware of his vindaloo, that caught me by surprise. Oh and Hammarby train in Årsta too.
So as I sit on my balcony, drinking my last morning cup of Ceylon I reflect on what a good choice Årsta was and how good its been to me. Årstafältet has been my gym, the Swedish winter was initially my enemy and it became my friend.
I doubt anybody will write a song about Årsta but I will miss you Årsta but I wont forget you.
Forza Bajen!
