Same here Dave, I have never seen anything like this. What amazes me is the active campaigning thats going on.

I just received a mail from FISK (folkpartiet Christians) which I roughly translate below. It seems the Liberals are not an official grouping as such.

Although I always vote I shall be giving this a miss!

Vote in church elections on 20 September!

The Liberal Party decided in the early 2000s that no longer stand for election to the Swedish Church. We are engaged in and for the Swedish Church and has a liberal society which created a network that simultaneously became a nominating group in church elections. We call ourselves for fish, Liberal Party politicians in the Swedish church, and we consist of both active Liberals and other liberals who are not in the party but share our liberal ethos. The reason we are not called Liberals in the Swedish Church is much that we wanted to use the abbreviation fish which is an ancient Christian symbol.

We are a small group of church meeting, currently 15 seats of 251, but we have always been talented and high-profile members as many times successfully run our affairs. We have a program that emphasizes the church's international responsibility for all its members not only in the innermost, we want to focus on the education of children and young people so that people have the chance to take a position for or against, we want to have personal qualities to a greater extent, we want to introduce possibility that in some cases, choose Assembly and stressed the Church's social responsibility to the people of alienation. On www.fiskarna.net You can read our program.

Because of the Center Party, Moderates and Social Democrats stand as parliamentary parties in the election, they have quite different resources than us and may thus have far more seats in the church meeting. If all the Liberals voted for us, we would become a much larger group and in a completely different way to implement our program.

There is a fish list for stiftsfullmäktige and a fish list for a church meeting in each polling station except in Linköping and the Diocese of Visby. In elections to the Assembly and better tomorrow, you can either find ourselves on clean fish lists, or different set lists.

Leveraging thus Your right to vote in church elections on 20 September! Every vote is important, last time voted about 12 percent of all members. A low turnout makes it possible for groups such as the Sweden Democrats, which invests heavily in church elections to have a dominant influence in the Swedish Church. They are well known one for both the Swedish Church and the Liberals completely alien vision of equal worth. How would it go with the church's extensive social work, diakonin?

Help us to show that we are many who think it's important to have an independent group made up of Liberals and Liberals with a Christian worldview in the Swedish Church's governing body!

My wife got something in the post about this. I usually follow politics closely but am baffled by this, though I'm not sufficiently interested to ask my wife a simple question and find out more.
