One thing I love about living in Stockholm is that I am still discovering new places.
On Friday afternoon I met up for an ‘after work’ with my FP friend GG. We met at Restaurang Cassi very close to Karlaplan and the office.
Its a French place, at the front is a cafe and at the rear you can order food. We had a few drinks and then feel hungry opted for some food. I plumped for Biff haché au poivre which I have not eaten in years, that dish almost transports me back to France.
It was good food at reasonable prices, well for Östermalm anyway. I also got the feeling that the more older members of the community eat and fika there so people watching was fun.
It was nice to have a social and political chat with GG as usually we just talk politics. Nice to get a females perspective on some things that happen in my life thats for sure.
I came home and had several glasses of Jack Daniels whilst watching ‘Who Put the M in Manchester’ Morrissey DVD. A nice way to end the week but had drunk a little too much and I felt it the next morning.
I had heard that this running lark is great way to cure hangovers so off I trotted..and trotted. The great thing about running in Sweden is there are always new tracks and forests to explore. I found a few new trails and ended up running around 6 to 6.5 kms! Oh and the hangover cleared, great!
On Saturday I met another friend who came down to Årsta to visit me. We had a few beers in a sportsbar called L.A.Bar and then went across the road to an Indian place called Srimoti. The decor wasnt the best but the menu was spot on and I went for a Chicken Vindaloo.
After I ordered it the waiter came back out and warned me this was very very hot. Yeah Yeah, most vindaloos in Sweden dont affect me but this one was very keen and I was sweating within minutes. Very suave Shane!
I managed to eat it but it was a real challenge, it was nice though.
However in the middle of the night I was hit with whats affectionately known as ‘Gandhi’s Revenge!’ I may as well have taken my bedclothes into the bathroom as I spent most of the night there. At one point I thought it may have been food poisoning but my friend was ok so it was a case of Shane 0 v Vindaloo 1!
I would definitely go back to Srimoti as it was a proper tandoori menu, obviously not designed for the Svensson palate but I will think twice before being too cocky in there again!
So quite a few new places visited this weekend, which is how I should be spending my weekends!

Shane, I know that Indian very well ….. it was the wifes favorite when we lived in Arsta, and yes it is a proper indian.
Cassi used to be my favorite haunt in Stockholm, as the food was great and the staff are always super nice. Unfortunately about 2 years ago they started seriously cutting back on the size of portions and 3 good thickness’ of meat became 3 thin pieces of meat (we are not talking cheap lunch menus) …. which I can understand is due to economics, but still it would have been better to keep the meat thick and reduce to 2 pieces to maintain the texture and taste.
Then the quality started to go on top of that, and the last few times I have been there I have been very disappointed. Yes the fries are legendary, but thats all that keeps the plates interesting nowadays.
The last time I was there, the oxfile was awful. (grisly and cheap)
And the wife and kids food wasn’t great either and defiantly not worth close to 1000:- // We all left very disappointed which is a shame as they used to do really nice food, but I expect the latest downturn in quality has more to do with cost savings over anything else and I cant see it getting any better . So from now on, its only puddings (fika) for me if I am there.
I miss the old cassi.
Ah yes I keep forgetting you lived in Årsta.
It was just really nice to see a real Indian menu, it was like seeing old friends again, even a Chicken Rezalla on the menu.
Sorry to hear about Cassi, I really enjoyed my biff hache so surprised to read that. It seemed pretty busy as well, its a stones throw from the office so will probably give it a spin another time and report back.
1000 SEK and disappointed is not good.
Try the Greek next time. It´s on the other side of the road in front of Lidl. LA Bar have also good food.
Thanks Tony, I picked up a menu from them the other day so will give that a go. I have eaten at LA Bar before and liked it. I keep convincing my Bajen mates to watch Bajen away games there but..
Its really cool that Årsta has such a good choice of eateries!
