Its amusing to tell a Swede you will meet  them at half (add in one to twelve here). The conversation usually goes like this:

Me: So I will see you down the pub at half six?
Sven: So thats six thirty right?

Or it goes

Me: So I will see you down the pub at half six?
Sven: So thats five thirty right?

The Swedes do the ‘half pas’t a lot differently than the Brits. Its laziness really, if we actually said ‘I will see you at half past six, the Swede would get it. It does make them think but they get it.

The Swede will say to me..see you at half four, what they actually mean is half an hour to four so they will actually mean half three. So then I get all confused!

Vad roligt!

Its an oddity in language but one you have to be aware of especially if its in business or if its that hot woman/guy you have spent ages on trying to get a date with…
