Stockholm New Years Eve

Stockholm New Years Eve

If I was 21, a time traveller and sent myself from 1996 to 2008 and read the below post I would probably have ended things there and then.

New Years Eve was always meant to be about boozing it up with the boys, a sly snog with the girl you have been eyeing up all year, of course it never progressed into anything else. It meant having a right laugh.

The last few years I have really toned it down. I have stayed in watched some DVDs, got some XBOX action in, drank some good whisky and chilled out at home.

This year Miss Palin was adamant I would not be on my own, so knowing I had no choice, I decided to cook my turkey on New Years Eve and make a delicious British Christmas dinner.

The problem is, my mother is a fantastic cook, and I can’t get anywhere near her roasts. Her gravy is divine, nice and thick! Her roasties always super crisp but soft and fluffy inside.

Is this enough veg for two Ma?

The other problem is, like my mother and this is probably a working class trait, I have a horror of someone a) leaving the table, still hungry or b) hating the food but eating it and saying its nice.

So I always end up cooking way too much.

All the trimmings!

Our dinner included roast potatoes, roast parsnip, yorkshire pudding, stuffing, roast turkey, steamed carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, savoy cabbage and turkey gravy!

Miss Palin seems happy with it or is she just a good actor!

Miss Palin brought some divine dessert!

I am not usually one for desserts but these were lovely, obviously we were too stuffed to eat them straight after dinner so we saved them for our champagne at midnight.

As it neared midnight we went up to Mariaberget. I am very fortunate to live near this hill overlooking Stockholm. But it was packed as we got up there.

I need to pop out now but I did take some video footage of the Stockholm skyline which I shall post tonight.

All in all it was a lovely way to spend new years eve. I drank very little and felt very smug waking up with no hangover now there is a first!!! I can also confirm that we both suffered no food poisoning or ill effects ;-)
