As part of my 100 day challenge I am forcing myself to read more newspapers. The Metro is the free rag given out on the tube.
A Pale Image of the Past
His lyrics are tighter and elegance still intact. And his voice is as white as ever (vitalare -couldnt find a good translation). But musically Morrissey is more and more like a shadow of his old brilliant self.
I have worked hard on the 9th solo album. I gave the songs time and waited for them to grow on me and take me to a more beautiful place.
But its not the belting stuff you would expect. ‘Years of Refusal’ is a work which includes too much pointless rock guitar playing and moves you forward with no particular goal. Its also due to a very slick production that doesnt give the depth needed for the arrangements.
On saying that, it does have its strong moments like ‘You Were Good In Your Time ‘ a reflective Moz sings out in his ballad suit.
More great moments were needed to lift ‘Years of Refusal’ to a higher level.
Hmm jävla journalistae har ingen smak tror jag! Adrian Hörnqvist you need to wash your ears out this was a cracking album, maybe not up there with some of his greatest work but the best thing since You are the Quarry for sure!

Trots det finns här ett par starka stunder, some ‘You Were Good In Your Time’, där en eftertänkssam Moz skrider fram i fin balladkostym.
Fler storslagna moment hade behövts för att lyfta ‘Years of Refusal’ till en värdigare nivå för skivan.

Good for you for being so determined!
vitalare än någonsin = more vigorous than ever
Thanks Nicole! I had this silly idea that just being a foreign country means you will automatically become fluent. I now realise you get out what you put in. Am already seeing an improvement!
Thanks Hasse! Nice to know so jag lära mig svenska mer vitalare än någonsin?
>Nice to know so jag lära mig svenska mer vitalare än någonsin?
In this sentence, if I translate only the word ‘vitalare’ you would use the equivalent of ‘energetic’ or something like that. The origin of vitalare is vital (vital, vitalare, vitalast) (compare good, better, best), which most often is used when talking about how healthy, in good shape, vigorous an older person is for his age. In your example you wouldn’t use the word vitalare, but depending on what you mean you might want to say:
‘så jag kan lära mig svenska mer framgångsrikt (successful) än någonsin’.
Thanks Hasse.
I have had a few regular readers email me saying the blog has got a bit boring because all the posts recently have been about learning Swedish but comments from you guys are really helping me, its a great way to learn!
Vita = Latin for “Life”
Svedish word “vital” shares origin with English “vital”. Don’t do the mistake of simply translate the English “vital” to the Swedish one though. It may well mean exactly the same thing in both languages – but it depends a great deal on context.
In this context I’d translate Vital to mean “full of life”. So I guess “his voice was filled with more life than in a long time.” Or some such.
