in Our Man in Sweden

I am in Sverige until at least the second week of August due to the fact its very hard to get my final interview at the US Embassy.

Still its good to make the most of the Swedish summer.

Things left to do in Sweden.

  1. Kayaking!
  2. Fishing in the Archipelago with a boat and expert tuition.
  3. Seal safari!

I was supposed to go kayaking last year. It was a sweet present from a sweet girl. I decided to go with my senior managers as a ‘kick off’ but due to illness we never made it. Now we are going next week. I am strangely excited by this despite the fact I am not really into water activities. I can swim but hate getting under the water in seas, rivers and lakes. I am learning at the ripe old age of 35 that now is the time to confront such fears.

The kayaking route is around the Stockholm island of Kungsholmen. Its going to be fun.  I am also a lot more fitter this year than last year with the running et al so I will be better prepared for it. I am even tempted to take the optional lesson of rolling in a 360 degree angle on the kayak so I get under the water before I start…then I would have nothing to fear but will I have the balls!!!

Tomorrow is a cracker! Fishing, in the Stockholm Archipelago, on a boat and with an expert. Its costly, around 300 Euros for half a day but I am determined to get the basics of spin fishing and get out there and snare an archipelago fish. There are plenty of pike there, a bit different from the sharks that will greet me in San Francisco Bay!

I am going fishing with a company called Catch and Relax…knowing how I fish there will be plenty of time for relaxing!

I will let you know how I get on.

Then in a fortnight I am taking a seal safari with a friend who will be visiting me. I have done this before. Back in 2008 with Fitness Eva ,that was a present as well. What is it with ex-girlfriends buying me presents that involve water activities! Must be a Swedish thing ;-)

The seal safari is great, on very fast speedboats. Its a lot of fun and a great way for visitors to see the Stockholm Archipelago. Most tourists catch the boat to Vaxholm which is pleasant enough but only a small part of what the Archipelago has to offer.

I guess I should also try and swim in the local waters as well….

In other news, my new blog is almost ready and I will be announcing the new blog address and twitter id very soon.
