Jamie Oliver Chilli recipe with a twist!

I have been suffering with some crappy bug all week so I wanted to knock up a flu beating chilli! May I present Chilli Con Carne Årsta style!

I think this might be called ‘fusion’ ha ha! Basically I cooked a chilli con carne from one of Jamie Olivers books called ‘Ministry of Food‘. I can really recommend this Jamie Oliver cookbook because its not full of poshy poncy ingredients which are hard to find. Its good old fashioned British grub.

However I added two ingredients to it which gave it a real twist. I wanted fire last night and thats what I got. I needed to sweat out this bug and it seems to have worked.

The two ’secret’ ingredients….

The Hottest Sauce in the Universe...Daves Insanity Sauce!

The Hottest Sauce in the Universe...Daves Insanity Sauce!

Daves Insanity Sauce gives the chili a real kick, its like a flamethrower! Read a great review on Daves Insanity Sauce here

Then something very British

A splash of Lea and Perrins

A splash of Lea and Perrins

It doesnt get more British than Worcestershire sauce...see what with that and Daves Insanity Sauce this is a little different from Jamie Olivers chili, not for the faint hearted.

You know what it worked! I feel great today though gutted I am not in Kalmar..the place where dreams are made or where the future Miss Rightsson is waiting for me ;-) Although I would rather it be an emphatic Hammarby win over Kalmar, even if that helps the tattare from Solna.

Anyway here is the Jamie Oliver recipe with some pics for those who are interested.

Chilli con carne Årsta style!

2 medium onions
2 cloves of garlic
2 medium carrots
2 sticks of celery
2 red peppers
olive oil
1 heaped teaspoon chilli powder
1 heaped teaspoon ground cumin
1 heaped teaspoon ground cinnamon
sea salt and freshly ground pepper
1x 400g tin of chickpeas
1x 400g tin of red kidney beans
2 x 400g chopped tin tomatoes
500g good quality minced beef
fresh coriander
2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
400g basmati rice
tub of natural yoghurt
tub of guacamole
1 lime

I didnt bother with the rice and yoghurt.

To make this an ‘Årsta style Chilli’ add a good splash or two of Worcester Sauce and sparingly use Daves Insanity Sauce be careful with it!

Daves Insanity Sauce

Daves Insanity Sauce

Basically you chop up the onions, garlic, celery  and carrots, halve the red peppers. Use a large casserole-type pan and lug in some olive oil and your veg. Add the chilli powder, cumin and cinnamon with the salt and pepper. Stir every thirty seconds for around 7 mins.

Add the drained chickpeas, red kidney beans and tomatoes. At this point I added the Lea and Perrins and Daves Insanity Sauce.

Be careful with the Insanity Sauce, use small drops stir in and taste to suit. Remember you can always add but never take away!

Then add the minced beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.

Fill one of the empty tomato tins and add it the pot. Add the balsamic vinegar, bring to a boil and then simmer for an hour.  Tasty!

I had thought about buying a pack, but am too chicken to try them ….

Having seen that video I think thats a step too far for me but I know a guy who would give em a go. My colleague Göran, the only man I have ever seen send a chicken phall back not once, not twice but three times for being too mild. He wasnt being a clown either, he cleared the lot!!!

I had a spoonful and how it didnt melt the china plate I have no idea!!!
