Hi Emma

Well at least when you do visit most of the snow and ice will have gone.

I would also ask your question on the discussion section of the The Local (http://www.thelocal.se) There are a few oddballs on there but in the main decent folks who will help you out, especially with the schooling questions.

Guys, thanks for all your ideas and advice. Unfortunately our planned trip was rescheduled until this week and I being tied up with work commitments my partner will now be traveling alone. In the meantime I am tasked with the residential research and schooling issues! Any advice on these topics would be more than welcome. We have a thirteen year old who requires schooling that follows a GCSE based curiculum and my partners job is based in Solna. The company will be offering a housing allowance (as yet unconfirmed), and we would be looking for a 3 bed rental apartment or small house maximum 30 mins public transport travel to Karolinska Institute. Any info on this would be great!

I suggest that Emma and her partner meet up a couple of us for a drink in the evening. We can give a decent expat perspective of life in the Nordics.

The Local is definitely very useful. I remember using it a lot before I moved here. The forums are a great way of getting answers to your questions.

On saying that after two years I now find the Local very 'Daily Mail' in its output. Never mind the forums the articles very rarely put Sweden in a good light and it usually fairly negative (as is a lot of newspapers output).

I do get irritated when the Local does a direct translation of a story in Dagens Nyheter and doesnt even credit it. It looks as if the article is written by the Local when its not.

So any ideas for Emma for a sightseeing itinary in Stockholm?

I would suggest you visit thelocal.se and read up on some of the problems that immigrants have adjusting to life in Sweden. Obviously you will read allot of negative threads, but if you do an objective search and dont have any kids you should be fine - Jeff
