Gutted is not the word!

I dont know whether to laugh or cry.

I am very honoured to be invited onto a prestigious business ‘academy’ for those earmarked for future leadership within the company.

Its spread out over a year and is run by a major Dutch University.

Now here’s the rub. One of the dates is the weekend of the Stockholm Half Marathon! I could have cried when I realised. The HM has been my anchor, my goal, I have visualised running that race so often. I wanted to prove to myself that I could run those 13 miles and prove to some of my detractors that, in the words of the late great Richard Nixon ‘I am not a quitter’.

There is no way I can not attend the Academy. I guess I will need to find another race, on another date. The snag is my training plan is calculated for a September run.  The Academy is on the German- Dutch border near Arnhem, maybe I will recreate Operation Market Garden and run the 13 miles through the Dutch forests instead.
