Gone Fishing

in Our Man in Sweden

My old man used to take me sea fishing as  a kid which I really enjoyed. I rarely caught anything but it was still enjoyable.

I did have a stint at carp fishing a few years back and I was bloody awful at that but still it was great fun. Greenpeace and the Animal Rights people love me as I just end up feeding the fish and not catching any!

Being in Sweden it seems rude not to take up fishing again. I need an outdoors hobby and figured fishing would be a way to get out and about, explore and see if I can snare a few fish.

I spent about 2000 SEK on fishing gear, and that was me not going mad or getting the most expensive stuff. I wanted it to be light as I dont have a car. I was assisted by a really helpful guy at Söder Sportfiske.

The nearest water to me that he recommended was either Årstaviken, a bit hit and miss or the lake Trekanten in Liljeholmen.

So I went up the for a mooch about and was really impressed. Liljeholmen is a funny place, more like a big building site than anything else with lots of commercial properties.

I took last Monday off work and went to the lake there at Trekanten. I wasnt really fussed about catching anything but as I was trying ‘spinning’ for fish for the first time – wanted to practice my casting and see if my knots would hold which they did.

Sweden never ceases to amazes me, everywhere is so close to nature and its clean and well looked after. This lake is so close to the city, is very well kept and lots of wildlife. The only problem was so many people walking around it. When I fish I go to get away from it all but still its a nice enough place to fish for a few hours and its only 20 mins or so away from the flat.

So here are a few pics from Trekanten, remember to click on the image for a larger view.
