I am constantly amazed by the good selection of outdoor gear on offer in Swedish shops. You can pick up a good selection of gear from what I would call standard High Street sports shops like Stadium, right up to specialist shops like Naturkompaniet
If there is one thing the Swedes do well is dress for the weather. I sometimes think Swedish people dress according to the week number and/or the Thermometer.
Its rubbing off on me as well. I needed a new hat (mössa) as its only going to get colder. I have a Hammarby one that I run in and a Union Jack one (if you see me runnnig around Årsta say hi!) but they are a little thin. So I went to Naturkompaniet and picked up a Fjällräven hat.
I looked at the selection of hats and normally wouild have gone North Face but when I saw Fjällräven I knew that was the company I trust to keep me warm.
Its funny because I remember texting Miss P back in June to ask if Fjällraven rucksacks were any good! She knows her outdoor stuff being a Scout so that recommendation was good enough for me.
Now I have the rucksack, a brilliant fishing hat, you know the ones with flaps and wool, it kept me so warm when I was out last. So who are Fjällräven?
It was actually started by a 14 year old boy, Åke Nordin in Northern Sweden. He designed a wooden frame for his backpack which was a big success. He then formed the company in 1960. The name Fjällräven means Arctic Fox. I read and believe that Fjällräven are more interested in producing practical gear rather than the latest trend. I can recommend them. When I went fishing last I took my hat off as I was so warm. The hat I bought last week, is thick and woollen and will do the job. It only cost me 200 SEK, a lot cheaper than other more global brands.

Hi Shane,
Glad you enjoy our products. As you say, we do our best to ensure you can go out and enjoy nature in any weather. Hope you will have some nice fishing trips with the hat and a really cold and crisp winter in our winter version.
Best Regards,
Jerry
Jerry, thanks so much for the comment.
Yes you have a loyal customer here now, anything that keeps me warm as a Brit in Sweden gets my vote.
Cheers
Shane
It’s räv, not rav ; D Extra funny seeing as raven is a completely different animal in English. Glad you’re feeling warmer!
