Learning Swedish with the Metro.
Congratulations Stockholmers! Next year you are going to be living in Europes first green city. Yesterday the EU Commission awarded Stockholm ‘Green Capital City’ status for 2010.
Those who live in Hammarby sjöstad can be even more proud. This is considered to be a shining example of climate friendly housing in a capital city.
‘We already have many study trips. Especially in Hammarby sjöstad’ says Helena Olman, Eniviroment Division.
The EU Commission emphasised that 95% of inhabitants in Stockholm live nearer than 300m from green open spaces, which increases the quality of life and environment. The construction of new bathing spots was also highlighted.
‘Stockholm is one of Europe’s Greenest capitals. This award is something the Stockholmers can be really proud about’ says Barbara Helferrich, the EU’s environmental spokesperson.
‘Stockholms’ future plans to be fossil fuel free by 2050 also heavily influenced the EU jurys decision.’
‘It feels really good to be a model for other towns in this manner’ says Ulla Hamilton (M), who received the award yesterday in Brussels.
There is one sentence I couldnt translate:
Liksom trängselskatten och sopåtervinningen.
New Swedish words learnt.
utsäg -announce
betonar -emphasis
tungt – heavily, as in weighed heavily on my mind.
I am pleased Stockholm has won this award as it truly is a lovely place to live.

utsäg is not a word. utsägelse, however, is.

betonar means emphasises, att betona is to emphasise.
