Our Man in Sweden

Balconywatch

March 18, 2010

The snow is slowly melting in Stockholm but its very slippery underfoot. Its been my mission not to fall on my arse this winter and so far so good. Had a few near escapes on my street though.
I was swearing yesterday as there was a snow shower, fortunately it soon abated.
So here is a snap [...]

Oslo Palace

March 17, 2010

I was in Oslo earlier this week. The talk went well.
I wanted to get some fresh air before my slot so I went out for a bracing walk. I have been to Oslo many times but always with work and usually quick overnight stays. I dont usually get to see much.
Had a cracking Indian meal [...]

Photos from Melodifestivalen 2010

March 14, 2010

Jag vill om du vågar …so that was Melodifestivalen…a very interesting Swedish Cultural Experience. I am surprised that attendance is not mandatory if you wish to become a Swedish Citizen. I think this is the only time I see the Swedes really cast away their shyness and inhibitions and go a bit wild! The question [...]

What have I done to deserve this?

March 13, 2010

As the PSB sang
What I will be enduring tonight!

You must speak Swedish!

March 11, 2010

I was interested to read a piece on todays Local (Swedish news in English) about Brommapojkarna
Their Chairman Ola Danhard has told his players they must speak Swedish to be eligible to play for the team.  Brommapojkarna play in Swedens top flight.

March 10, 2010

I got an email from a Casting Agent tonight. There I was thinking it was for my charm or my good looks, surely not for my singing? But alas it was a mail from a Casting Agent looking for families or couples who have recently moved to Sweden. Thats me out, maybe just as well [...]

March 6, 2010

On Wednesday night I got to see Swansea City’s home ground on Swedish TV. Wales were playing Sweden.  The Swedes won 1-0 which wasnt a bad result considering how many injuries Wales had.

Today though is the real treat, Swansea take on Nottingham Forest away and its on TV4 sport! Its a rare treat to get [...]

Help Emma

March 4, 2010

One of the great things about keeping a blog is the email contact from people who are kind enough to write in.
A lady called Emma mailed me this week. There is a chance her partner may start work in Stockholm and they are considering the life changing move to Sverige.
They are visiting next week and [...]

Lars Ohly – what a clown!

February 28, 2010

Every time Lars Ohly – the Leader of the Left Party opens his mouth I wince. The now Leninist but once Stalinist leader said recently
‘Vi ser nu hur nyliberalismens kollaps gör att manniskor inte kan åka tåg när det blir snö’
Roughly translates as:
‘We see now how the collapse of neo-liberalism means that people can not [...]
