Or so they used to say.
Since moving to Årsta I have seen a lot of propaganda from the Vansterpartiet -the Left Party who didnt drop the Communist bit from their name until the 90s but have a very’ iffy’ past. Tonight they were having a public meeting on the EU and I thought I would go along. I think left wing philosophy is fascinating but only in theory, it just doesn’t work. However I am always interested in peoples views and their take on things.
I decided I would go.
I left it a bit late as I got caught up on a phone call and I am glad I did. I had planned to rock up and sit at the back and leave when I wanted – or before I got tapped up to be a member or something…however as I apporached Årsta Folkets Hus, I could see only four people and the Left Partys’ EU candidate.
Ooh that was a close call I would have been in serious trouble had I got there early.
I wont take the piss though as I respect people who give up their time for politics. Even though I would struggle to support any of the Left Party’s policies I respect the fact that rather than sitting in and watching the football these activists were trying to create debate. Mind you in my past experiences the Left dont really like debates with people who don’t agree with them.
Having seen all the propaganada and posters I had assumed Årsta was a big Left Party area..obviously not.
In other political news…looks like today was the day the posters went up. Different lampposts have different party posters on but only one party per post. Is there some kind of agreement here? Or is it one company that puts the posters up? I know back where I grew up a Tory poster would have been burnt on the spot.
Last night the leaders all debated on Swedish TV. I missed the debate but from what I have read the Social Democrats let slip they will raise taxes across the board. No change there then. How on earth they expect us to get out of a recession with even higher taxes is beyond me. I think this demonstrates the high and mighty attitude of Mona Sahlin and Co that they know best and not us!

I remember studying marxism and communism in Russian during in a level history and think the theories are great and that in an ideal world we could use parts of it. However history and hindsight show us that it cant work. Although Cuba have done alright, especially in health care.
How the Swedish government can raise taxes is beyond me. I heard that the tax from the big 3 cities pays for the rest of the country. But surely Sweden must never have a yearly deficet in the budget with the amount of different taxes here? When I broke and dislocated my wrist I had to pay 300kr to see the nurse who with one look told me i needed and xray which was obvious for all to see. Then 200kr for and xray. I thought their was an NHS system here? Guess its just subsidised.
Good to see that you don’t vote left
I myself is something like a central-righter. Like some of the ideas of SocDem and some of the right.
