in Hammarby, Our Man in Sweden

As I wrote yesterday I was amazed by the Hammarby march to Söderstadion. It reminded me of a time when British football fans marched together to a ground and sang for their team. Its hard to do that thesedays in the UK as the police usually stop or run in and nick a few of your friends, or worse.

I have to commend the Swedish police yesterday, they were there but they were very low key. There was no baying Alsatian dogs, cops gnashing their teeth brandishing their truncheons ready to give someone a clump. Don’t get me wrong some fans deserve it but…

What amazed me was that there were families taking part, either walking or watching from the street. I am also impressed by how many women turn up for Bajen matches. Not sure if this is an Allsvenskan thing but there are far more women at games than back home.

Anyway I digress, here are some photos from the march and the game. There are too many to add on this blog post so I have stuck them all on my flickr page. It really was a carnival atmosphere yesterday.

That looks great. Compare that with what i saw yesterday watching my swiss Bajen ersatz team Luzern. I guess the Swiss are so ordered throughout their lives that the only outlet for stupidity is the football ground. (see bajenlondon.blogspot.com )
