Back to the old house

in Our Man in Sweden

Having a guest here has meant I have been bobbing about Stockholm a bit more than usual. Today I had to go to the Hammarby supporter shop to stock up before I leave.

On my way I decided to swing by my first flat in Brännkyrkagatan. I haven’t been back since I moved, just over a year ago. It was kind of sad as memories came flooding back.

I was such a wide eyed new boy in town then. Everything new and everything was an adventure. I was slightly nostalgic for those days though I am about to go through it again soon, on another continent.

I remembered the people and experiences of that first 12 months. The challenges of living in Sweden.

Yes the above is a title from a Smiths song:

‘When you cycled by
Here began all my dreams
The saddest thing I’ve ever seen
And you never knew
How much I really liked you
Because I never even told you
Oh, and I meant to’

I remember leaving Stockholm and it can be sad and frantic. Which Hammarby shop did you visit? The Hornsgaten place near Zinken? Or the hard-to-find Gamla Stan place? Or both?

Hi mate

The Gamla Stan shop looked closed down when I went past the other day. Maybe he has moved? I went to Hornsgatan, spent a fortune but disappointed not to be able to get the away shirt which I rather like. Sometimes Hammarby just let money slip through their fingers.

Nostalgia is not for the faint hearted, my friend. Just jump on your bike and ride on by…..
