Årstafältet dumped on again!

in Our Man in Sweden

Running through Årstafältet has been a nightmare recently. I love trotting through there because its quiet, just me, the birds and locals walking their dogs. Oh and of course I cant forget the many cross country skiiers who have been enjoying the deep snow on Årstafältet.

Recently I have almost been run over by trucks as they dump snow from other areas on Årstafältet.  What was a tranquil place to run has turned more into a nightmare Nintendo game of late. The difference being I dont have three lives!

I read in this weeks Metro ‘Det är så fuktigt i luften att jag inte kan andas that 1500 lorry loads of snow has been dumped on Årstafältet of late. No wonder there has been a skyttletrafik (shuttle traffic) of lorries. Local residents are complaining because the once fresh air is choked with fumes. Pedestrians have to take care of themselves and dogs and there is a lot of noise. Some residents are complaining of breathing problems.

Nätverket Årstfältet also has some reports alleging that some lorry drivers have used violent and abusive language to some locals who have been taking photographs of the distruption. Let me also point out that this isnt pure white snow. This is dirty snow, Lord knows whats in it and what its been contaminated with.

Of course this snow has to be dumped somewhere. The Traffic Office (trafikkontoret) say that if they do not do this then roads will have to close.

Årstafältet is about to be decimated to make room for new housing. I think this is a real shame, now its being used as the citys dumping ground for very dirty snow and ice.

In the words of the Pet Shop Boys ‘what have we done to deserve this?

Is this a case of NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) yes probably but my question is simply are other green areas getting their fair share of the snow?

Swedish Word of the Day is fuktig – damp/moist.

Bra postning, och tråkigt sätt att använda Årstafältet på!

Wow I am flattered. Not had a Parliamentary candidate comment on the blog before. Tack.

I know this is a hard one for politicians because nobody wants this in their own area and the snow has to go somewhere. I just wonder if Årstafältet is getting more than its fair share.
